To choose the correct shaft length, measure the thickness of the material. Be sure to include the dial thickness or heavy finishes such as epoxy resin in your total thickness. The shaft length must be at least 1/16" or 1/8" greater than the materials you are going through. Example: 1/4" thick wood requires a 5/16" or 3/8" threaded shaft length.
